Funding and Bursaries
Whenever you apply for any funding, it is always advisable to include the costs of training.
Even if your project or activity employs ‘experienced staff’, they may still need project-specific skills, or renewal of certificates, (first aid, health and safety, manual handling etc) – or they may need to attend conferences or regional and national events which are linked to the activity. It is good employment practice to encourage and enable staff to attend appropriate training and related events. Hopefully funders will recognise this good practice and will be able to support it by providing funding for training within their grants.

Grants available for training on children's workforce topics
The eligibility criteria are fairly broad, so do take a look to see if you could benefit from this grant scheme, which is funded by the Children's Workforce Development Council.

NAVCA have announced two new grant schemes - for individuals to undertake training (up to £300 per organisation) and for good practice exchange visits. More details on the above website.
Save the Children and British Gas have announced the next funding round of the Here to HELP Awards - up to £1,000 for projects by young people that help make their communities healthier, more engaging, safer places to be.

Big Lottery Fund - Family Learning Programme
Big Lottery Fund has launched Family Learning, a programme that helps parents to understand more about how their children learn and encourages adults and children to learn as a family.

Heritage Lottery Fund - supporting projects which increase opportunities to learn about Places of Worship
Read about the project in Norwich Cathedral which shared their resources to promote citizenship and community cohesion; or the project in Suffolk which has conserved a unique example of church art and then produced a series of learning materials for use by schools and a training programme for volunteer guides. Heritage Lottery Fund - supporting work in Diverse Communities
Among projects supported are the Bangladesh Youth League in Luton who researched immigration into this country; a project in Cambridge collected and shared Romany memories and experiences, passing on learning and knowledge of traditional Romany skills. For more information, click here.
Aims to fund projects that respond to needs in communities, and actively involves the communities, which could include geographic communities and also communities with shared interests.
This three-year programme, launched on 7 December 2005, will make up to £100 million available in 2006-07, with future budgets being set annually.
Aiming to support the following through this programme:
*people having better chances in life, including being able to get better access to training and development to improve their life skills
*strong communities, with more active citizens, working together to tackle their problems
*improved rural and urban environments, which communities are better able to access and enjoy
*healthier and more active people and communities.

National Offender Management Service (NOMS) has not yet published its grant programme for 2008-09.
The Prime Minister has announced that a new Ministry of Justice will be established, including the Prison Service and the National Offender Management Service. The changes will come into effect on 9 May 2007.
